I hate writing these things, so to borrow from Blackadder Goes Fourth:

"One doesn't like to blow ones own Trumpet sir!"

So, here we go.

I've been working as a location sound recordist for over 20 years now and have STILL haven't completed full "Sound Recordist" look. I have achieved the beard but the sandals and socks have thus far proved to be out of reach. Even without achieving "Peak Soundo" status I have been fortunate enough to be involved in projects across a wide variety of genre.

The twin terrors of my life (my 5 year old girls) keep my fiance and I from causing too much trouble of our own. With Joni and Aila being so young it does mean that I shall be working for the foreseeable future, so hopefully I shall one day attain the "Peak Soundo" look. Everyone needs an ambition right?

A little more detail, if you need it/are having trouble sleeping.

I started out as a Mixer/recordist in 98, since then I have been fortunate to work on a wide variety of projects at locations across the Globe. From factual entertainment through specialist documentary to current affairs and sport I have had the opportunity to record sound in all sorts of unusual scenarios; burning buildings, sub-zero temperatures and aboard a shark fishing boat in a gale have been one end of the spectrum, while at the other adopting the right approach with victim interviews for Crimewatch.

As well as tough subject matter I have also worked in unusual environments from snow in the Alps, the arid Arizona desert to the jungles of Belize. Im conscious on location of the need for everyone to work together to get the best product we can. Im happy to help any crew member should the need arise. As a result, I am used to dealing with cameras from Go Pros to the Alexa, rigging lights, jib arms and dollies. Im used to working with both large crews associated with commercials & Branded Content and small self-shooting teams for long term access driven Observational Documentaries where the relationships between crew and contributors.

I am happy working with large or small crews, with experienced on screen talent or nervous first time contributors.

With the wide range of work has come a wide variety of locations, Freezing Yukon for Gold Rush to Belize Mangroves for the BBC NHU, all have seen me searching for the first coffee of the morning.

Away from work, I'm pretty much the standard Welsh Farmers boy. The outdoors still holds sway over most things and it's where I relax most. Obviously Rugby has and does play a large part of my life, from playing when I was younger to coaching when my work schedule allows.
