Adventure Documentary

This documentary was centred around the important work undertaken by the Smithsonian Institute Scientists focused on understanding the complex tropical rainforests that cover only 6% of the worlds surface yet containing over half the world's plants and animals. Shot in 3D the documentary explores how the Tropical Rain Forests can support such a variety of life which has always been one of nature's greatest mysteries. The experience working in several Jungles around the world as the documentary sound recordist for different productions has taught him how demanding but also how rewarding the Jungle can be. In addition to recording the documentary interviews and actuality scenes with the Scientists at work, Stuart recorded surround sound atmospherics and specific wild tracks used throughout the film. The rich ever changing immersive audio beds were recorded with the Soundfield ST450 Surround microphone and lay the soundtrack for all the interviews and actuality following the scientists at work 180m above the Jungle canopies, dropping ants from treetops, placing top hats on Sloths, playing mobile ring tones to bats and tracking monkeys of the Borro Colorado Island. This production gave the opportunity to work in advance of the shoot with Dubbing Mixer Jon Gray to specify delivery of the surround audio files and discuss the project in depth which is always a welcome treat to collaborate in advance with postproduction.
