Working as a freelance TV camera operator, particularly in news, often means early starts, late finishes and being able to adapt to rapidly changing situations, locations and technology to provide services and solutions to a range of clients.
I started yesterday at Grimsby fish market for ITV news, before hot footing it to Grimsby Institute to interview Labour leader Kier Starmer making a visit to speak with local students before an even busier evening working as the main Live camera for the whole of the BBC’s network news output with reaction from the spin room at the leaders debate at Grimsby town hall.

From editing and uploading rushes out in the field via a laptop to working with a satellite truck, single handedly lighting and covering sound in hectic and time dependent situations, freelancing is about being adaptable but still delivering the results to a deadline.
