Showreels

Our research has shown us that for those in visual roles, showreels are an absolute must when trying to attract new clients.

In an ideal world, your reels should contain original footage and be cut by an editor that knows what they’re doing. Montage reels may be tempting but not as effective as genre dedicated. The good news is that they shouldn’t be very long. Between 45 seconds and one and a half minutes is best. They should contain your best work visually and demonstrate a mixture of skills and lighting situations.

For non-visual roles, we would still recommend adding video to your profile however, a professionally edited showreel is not necessary, instead, you can locate footage from the show on either YouTube or Vimeo and add the URL of the clip.

Remember, potential international clients may not be familiar with UK titles so a visual representation of the quality of the production is important.

How to add showreels
  • Click on the '+' symbol next to 'Edit profile'.
  • Navigate to 'Manage showreels' and select.
  • Click 'Add showreel'.
  • Complete the required fields then click 'Create showreel.'
  • You can change the order in which your showreels appear by selecting 'Reorder'.
On your profile the first two showreels will appear. If you add more, these will be available to view under the "View all" link on your profile next to Showreels.

Best practice tips
If you don't have a showreel, which is usually the case for those in non-visual roles, links to trailers and clips can be a good way of demonstrating the types of productions you have worked on.

Use the description field when creating a showreel to describe your role, approach or any highlights in the production or showreel you've linked.
