Willie J Healey - Morning Teeth | A Take Away Show
This winter, we met up with the - always smiling - Willie J. Healey in his hometown of Oxford. While walking through theses streets he knows so well, we were instantly charmed by Willie's dreamy wit. James Hough who directed the video recalls: 'I have to say that everything seemed to be working in our favour, blue skies, busy streets and Willie was on fine form. His warming smile and charmful personality helped people interact with him to create this warm and wonderful Take Away Show as we went on our short walk.' Watching the video, you can’t help but see how communicative the fun and enjoyment Willie experiences while playing music is to the people who meets his eyes. And we’re pretty sure that you'll feel it too!
Sipho. feat. Shaé Universe - Run For Your Life | A Take Away Show
'So won’t you run for your life?'. It's hard to describe how deep we were touched by Sipho & Shae Universe's voices. The fact that one passer-by burst into tears outside while we were shooting this session just says it all. Their magnetic presence brightens the century-old house that welcomed us that day and might make its way to you.
Leyla McCalla - Sun Without the Heat | A Take Away Show
Here’s a song of hope and transformation. Leyla McCalla wrote it on guitar but here she is playing it on the cello in a street of London. We met her around Ladbroke Grove, which is where the Notting Hill carnival happens every year. 'Sun Without the Heat' references a speech given by Frederick Douglass in 1857. 'You want the crops without the plow / You want the rain without the thunder / You want the ocean without the roar of its waters’. Adressing a room full of white abolitionists, Douglass was talking about the upheaval necessary to create a more equitable society. Leyla found these words so beautiful and strong that she kept singing them. 'These wounds are so old', she sings. 'The road is long'. But her voice makes you want to have faith in that change.
