"A gang of celebrities climb aboard Brendan Sheerin's big bus for a sun-soaked adventure"
Spending a summer traveling around Europe with a group of celebrities taking part in various tasks was a joy to be a part of. It also presented itself with a number of unique and interesting challenges.
Travelling around Europe as a sound recordist you are constantly dealing with issues with radio frequencies (RF). Different countries have different requirements as to what is the agreed license for broadcast RF. When you have 20 celebrities, numerous audio sends to cameras and wireless booms having a workflow that made it quick and easy to change frequencies was so important. It was a challenge but by planning ahead of time we were always one step ahead and rarely (if ever) had issues.
The many tasks the celebrities had to undertake was also a challenge. It could involve water task, tasks which spread over a long distances and ones where it involved a lot rigorous tasks. Everyday presented itself with a new challenge; how to get the cleanest audio and allow the tasks to flow as smoothly as possible. Planning before hand, using booms when available and talking to production about our needs was essential. It created a seem less working environment and lead to us getting the best audio for the program.
