DoP, RTS-Best Broadcast Promotional.

My partner and I were on a date. My mobile rang. "Ian, we need to talk about Fear!" WTH? It was late. Andy never called out of office hours.

I shot Fear months ago. I had more or less forgotten about the job, a 1 day shoot. on my Sony Digital Betacam DVW-790 WSP (standard def camcorder) and my then new track and dolly.

It sounded like there was; a crisis, a problem, that needed me to shoot something, to fix. Most unlikely, especially given the months that had passed since the shoot, and why at that time of night?

After a few sentences, I thought Andy sounded a little drunk. What was going on?

Then he said, "I am at the RTS Awards Ceremony. Fear won Best Broadcast Promotional."

And I was 300 miles away, not wearing black tie. So I ordered a bottle of the best champagne and Denise and I celebrated my first, my only professional award, so far.

Not bad for an Advertising Photographer who had trained himself to be a broadcast TV DoP.

If I were never to shoot another award winner, I would be a happy DoP.
